Howlin Dan, the name says it all. Dan has a supersized persona and a powerful vocal style to match! From the moment Dan took to the stage it was clear he was purely enjoying the moment. Talking about his love for playing small venues for the intimate performance where the audience is a part of the show, not just background noise for the musician to play over. Dan's relaxed nature and open approach made the audience comfortable and the smile on everyone's face as I looked around the room was clear sign he had won us all over.
Dan was joined on stage by guitar player Craig Atkins who's blues style leads complimented Dan's arsenal of blues flavored rock, folk, country, and other dynamic styles very nicely. A couple catchy tunes like "drop de roach" and "5 pound hammer" stayed with me for days after the show. A fantastic bass player, and acoustic guitarist, Dan's control over his instrument and voice was simply awesome, deep funky grooves mixed with heartfelt lyrics that told personal stories of women, friends, good and rough times made the performance believable and that much more enjoyable.
We're hoping Howlin Dan is back in the fall, and I strongly encourage you to check it out. You wont be disappointed.
