This was the second concert I had attended at The Snoring Sasquatch. The band was excellent, the first set was about 15 songs, most of which were ballads and slow tunes (which was actually the theme of the show). Every so often the band would break out into an uptempo tune to recharge the audience and ultimately themselves. Playing their own arrangements of Loreena McKennitt, the guitar of Bob Gollan captured the essence of the harp from the original piece and the vocals sung by Julie Groot were haunting and true to the style of Loreena McKennitt... no easy task.
The regular bass player (Deb Mehrer) was recovering from carpo tunnel surgery and was unable to play, though she did contribute with some backing vocals and nice harmonies. Ted Bryant, a well know musician from the area filled in with his upside down, left handed bass and did a fantastic job. For me, one of the highlights was when Rhonda Barter and her fiddle joined in on the fun for a couple maritime tunes which really sounded outstanding.
The second set ended off with several Scottish tunes which the audience was clearly enjoying, as a look around the room showed many legs bumping, and thumbs clapping. If you get a chance to check out Peanut Butter & Jam, do so.
Thanks for a great night!
